Dryden Mayor Craig Nuttall isn’t warming up to a recommendation to help pay for improved public transit in the Toronto and Hamilton area.
Metrolinx is suggesting a 1% sales tax hike and a five-cents per-litre gas tax to help pay for the upgrades.
In an interview with CKDR News Nuttall immediately said “the hell to the Toronto area!”
Nuttall says we shouldn’t be paying for the needs of Southern Ontario.
He says that the border doesn’t stop at Toronto and northwestern Ontario communities are faced with aging infrastructure.
He stresses any money collected can be better spent here on badly needed upgrades.
Nuttall says the government needs to get their act together, and that the public needs to lobby their MPP’s to say no to the issue.
Premier Kathleen Wynne plans to use the report to decide which “tools” to use to fund public transit projects in the area.
