The Dryden Police Service is taking an aggressive stance on false alarms.
The Police Board is looking at hiking fines if officers are dispatched to a false alarm.
The penalty right now is $15, but the Board is recommending a $50 penalty in 2019 and another $50 in 2020.
It’s also recommended that you receive only one warning per year as opposed to one free pass every month.
Chief Doug Palson has been asked to develop a bylaw that will allow for officer discretion in certain cases.
Police have already had to deal with 170 false alarms this year.
The Board says responding to false alarms takes up officers time and could potentially impact response times for more serious calls.
