The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police is suggesting pot-smokers receive tickets instead of criminal records.
Dryden Police Chief Rob Davis thinks it’s a good idea, and says it would save a lot of time and money.
He calls the current law outdated and inefficient and stresses simple possession charges tie up court services.
Davis says the marijuana laws under the Controlled Drugs and Services Act haven’t been reviewed in decades.
He notes it’s now up to the Ministry of Public Safety to take it to the Feds to see if an amendment can be made to the Criminal Code.
