The Chief of Police for the Dryden Police Service says they will be ready for the October 17th date of the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Doug Palson says they have no choice but to be prepared.
Palson admits there will be growing pains but notes information is still be shared and officers will continue to receive training.
He says everyone at the grassroots level are still learning about what the legislation means and what it doesn’t mean.
Palson notes the next step is having all of their officers complete standard field sobriety testing, to help them identify drivers who are impaired by drugs.
He says the Detachment is also waiting for the approval of a road side screening testing machine.
Palson says half of their officers already have the field sobriety training.
All officer training is fully funded by the government.
Palson ends by saying it’s too early to say if the legalization of recreational pot will increase or reduce officer workload.
