The new Ontario Regional Chief is promising unity for the province’s first nations.
Roseanne Archibald, a Deputy Grand Chief with the Nishnawbe Aski Nation, was elected Wednesday morning.
She says the road ahead is going to be difficult for aboriginal communities.
Archibald says they will persevere by working together and building plans together.
She stresses they will be strategic and will no longer act to governments.
Archibald won 67 of the 115 votes cast, compared to 36 for the incumbent, Isadore Day.
Day says isn’t surprised by the result and is congratulating Archibald on the victory.
He notes he’s not going anywhere and will continue to fight for First Nations.
