Dryden Police Warn of “Grandparent Scam”

The “Grandparent Scam” is back in Dryden.
Acting Police Chief Kevin Glenister says a local resident received a call Tuesday from someone posing as a lawyer stating that their grandchild is in custody and requires $3,000 bail.
Glenister adds the intended victim is also told not to tell anybody, because the alleged grandchild doesn’t want to get into trouble with their parents.
The resident wasn’t fooled, but Glenister says one woman was scammed out of $10,000 earlier this year by shysters who contacted her with a similar story.
He is asking children of parents who are getting older to educate them about the scam.
