Dryden Pride Political Reaction; Rainbow Alliance Formed

There was a strong political presence Saturday for the first ever Pride Day in Dryden.

Chief Administrative Officer Ernie Remillard, Kenora MP Bob Nault and Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell all spoke at the event and participated in the Pride Parade.

All three thanked the organizing committee for their hard work to host the event.

Remillard stressed he’s very happy to see our small community be inclusive and says it’s extremely important that we are all in this together, no matter what you believe in.

Campbell says we have come a long way in recognizing the LGTBQ community but notes more work is needed.

She says progress has been made to address raids, arrests, incarcerations and job firings that the gay community has been subjected to.

Nault was participating in his third Pride event and he spoke about the importance of exercising an important right as a Canadian.

He says every community should have an opportunity to participate in the gay communities pride and the rights that we all take for granted throughout the year.

At the weekend event, the organizing committee announced the creation of the ‘Rainbow Alliance’, a new organization focusing on raising the profile of the local LGTBQ community.
