Dryden Reacts to Red-Light Cameras

Don’t expect red-light cameras to be installed in the City of Dryden anytime soon.
The Province has given Municipalities the green light to set up cameras at intersections and to keep the money raised by the fines.
City Police Chief Shayne MacKinnon says he supports anything that will keep the streets safe but he notes rash decisions can’t be made.
MacKinnon says until they see how the cameras work in other community’s; he can’t see them being used here.
He adds the cost to install the equipment is also a major issue.
MacKinnon notes pilot projects in the past indicate that the cameras do make people more alert when driving.
