Dryden Rotary Receives FireSmart Tips

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is promoting the importance of a wild fire preparedness program.

Malcolm Robertson addressed members of Dryden Rotary Wednesday to highlight the FireSmart initiative.

Robertson believes the heightened fire threat is a great time to make sure people are fire safe.

The program provides tips and support for local residents in case a wild fire reaches the area.

Robertson says it’s important to have a plan in place to limit potential damages.

He recommends keeping wood away from your home as well as routinely clean gutters and trim tree branches.

Robertson notes you should think about getting rid of Balsam and Softwood trees, noting Hardwoods are less likely to burn.

Robertson stresses you should ensure your deck is clear of debris as that area is a major fire starter.
