Dryden Mayor Craig Nuttall says the province has agreed to provide one-time assistance to communities struggling from recent mill assessments.
Nuttall hasn’t disclosed the amount of financial assistance but notes it will help reduce the financial pressure on the City.
He stresses it’s time for Domtar to step up to the plate.
Nuttall says the company is a corporate citizen here and they have to understand the City is going through difficult financial times.
Meantime, Council has agreed to withhold a $25,000 payment to the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation and put it in a trust fund.
It’s the latest move in the ongoing dispute between the City and MPAC over the decrease in the value of the Domtar Mill.
Nuttall says if he had his way, he wouldn’t pay them a single penny.
He notes the Corporation isn’t doing its job and notes they should be fired.
Shayne MacKinnon voted against the move, stressing the City should be paying its bills.
