Dryden Teen Recalls Serious Crash

One of the survivors of a serious crash Monday morning is telling her story.

Nessa Leckner and her friend Caitlin BigGeorge were on their way back to Dryden from a pow pow when their car left Highway 502 around 1:45.

Nessa says they were rounding a corner, when they came face-to-face with a moose standing in the middle of the road.

She says the animal came out nowhere.

Nessa says she swerved to avoid the moose, hit the gravel and that’s when the car rolled over several times into a water-filled ditch.

BigGeorge managed to escape but Leckner was pinned by the arm in the back of the car.

Nessa says she has no clue how her friend was able to get out as both doors were pinned but she believes BigGeorge went through the wreckage of the roof, under the water and through the swamp.

She notes the water was cold and she almost gave up hope.

BigGeorge then flagged down Brian Godin who was passing by.

The Fort Frances man was able to call 9-1-1 for help.

Nessa says she probably wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for Godin.

She says he literally saved her life and she’s so thankful for his help.

The two teens were transported to hospital in Fort Frances with multiple injuries.

Nessa wasn’t wearing her seatbelt, but Godin tells CKDR News says if she had been, she probably would have died in the crash.

Nessa’s message to other drivers is don’t drive in a tired state.

She says she was exhausted and should have pulled over for a nap.

Nessa notes they had stopped for a very quick break moments before the collision.
