44-tombstones were placed outside Dryden High School Thursday to mark
World No Tobacco Day.
The Dryden Youth Action Alliance event says the tombstones represent
the 44-people who die everyday in Ontario from tobacco related diseases.
Spokesperson Sam McKibbon says he also had a friendly conversation with
several teen smokers and stressed the Alliance is not against smokers, its against
tobacco industry who uses cheap advertising to encourage kids to light up.
McKibbon says roughly 60-students signed on to help the Alliance in
future events and notes he believes the message was delivered.
He notes another event is planned for Family Safety Night next
Wednesday.
