Dryden’s Medical History Featured At Museum

The Dryden and District Museum is inviting you to come learn about the medical history of our area.

The Museum is hosting two travelling exhibits until November 8th: ‘The Promotion of Healthy Living and Medical Records in Ontario’.

Both come from the Archives of Ontario.

Cultural and Tourism Coordinator Bethany Waite says the exhibit will include the medical history of clinics, hospitals, and medical professionals of the Dryden area.

It will feature artifacts from the collection such as medical instruments, photographs of the Red Cross Hospital, vintage “Get Well” cards from the archives as well as biographies of Dryden doctors.

Waite says the exhibit is important as medical care was a concern when towns were being settled in northwestern Ontario.

She notes doctors, nurses and physicians came to the area as industries developed, such as mining and building the railroad.

An opening reception will be held Wednesday from 6:00pm until 7:30pm at the Museum.
