Early Spring Challenges First Nations

An early spring, resulting in unsafe winter roads, is a serious and negative issue for remote First Nation communities.
Kenora MP Greg Rickford says winter roads are “vitally important” to all isolated First Nation communities in the Kenora riding. Communities rely on these roads for transportation of supplies such as goods, services, and fuel.
Because of this, several isolated First Nation communities are planning construction of new schools, police stations and other upgrades.
These projects are intended to be completed by Spring 2011 and a strategy for the shortened winter road system in under consideration.
