ELA Group Is Calling On The Federal Government

The transfer of the Experimental Lakes Area continues to hit road blocks.
Peter Kirby is with the group Save ELA and says that the delay has halted research at the facility, including the Trent University Science Team which was supposed to be allowed back into the facility this summer. Kirby says financial demands are also a huge factor and from what they understand, even with Ontario’s contribution there’s going to be a struggle getting the ELA up to speed. In addition, private donors can’t offer their support until the transfer of the facility to the International Institute for Sustainable Development is complete.
Kirby says the delay has halted science at the facility and is leading to the break up of the science team that runs the ELA.
He is calling on the Federal government to cover the necessary costs to finalize the negotiations.
