The Fraser Institute says it hasn’t seen a lot of improvement in student achievement in the Kenora and Rainy River District.
The right-wing think tank is out with its latest rankings for elementary schools and most schools were below the provincial average of 6 out of 10.
Author of the report Peter Cowley says the schools need to ensure their students are doing better.
Cowley says students are failing in basic skills including literacy, numeracy and writing.
He notes parents should be asking schools what they are doing to improve results.
Both the catholic and public school boards have long dismissed the report.
The Golden Learning Centre in Balmertown received the highest grade of 7, while Sioux Mountain school fared the worst at 1.4.
The top ranking school in Dryden was St. Joseph’s at 6, while Riverview followed with a 5.3-score.
