Elk Population on the Decline

A herd of some 104 elk imported from Alberta into the region 2 years ago has now dwindled down to 45.
Murray English is the Co-Chair of the Lake of the Woods Elk Restoration Committee and says poaching has been the biggest problem.
English says so far 8 animals have been killed by hunters, the latest coming last month, and there are 4 other possible cases.
English adds he will be meeting with the Minister of Natural Resources later this month to discuss options for improving herd numbers.
