Some of Ontario’s largest employers are complaining about the proposed new provincial pension plan.
The Ontario Chamber of Commerce has written an open letter asking that more businesses be exempt.
Conservative MPP Julia Munro says the plan will make doing business in Ontario just too expensive for most employers.
Munro says business owners are already struggling with skyrocketing energy rates, the payroll tax and the upcoming carbon tax.
Some of Ontario’s largest employers like Walmart, Ford, Canadian Tire and General Motors have signed the letter asking to be exempt from the new pension plan.
The government says it has been gathering feedback from Ontario businesses but has yet to determine whether the new pension plan will be universal or not.
The province says public consultations will continue.
