The new Sports and Leadership Development program that will start next school year is gathering lots of local support.
Vermilion Bay will be home to the program starting this September for Dryden-area students in Grades 6, 7, and 8.
Lillianberg School Principal Suzanne Bastable says so far 35 applications have been handed in.
She says 60 applications are being sought.
Bastable says the response has been positive however some parents are concerned about their children spending a lengthy amount of time on the bus.
She says some parents in Vermilion Bay have offered to house out-of-town students.
The pilot project will offer various sports including hockey, figure skating, soccer and track.
They also plan to hire a fitness trainer to work with students.
