Environmental Groups are suspending further work with Resolute Forest Products.
They say that the company has failed to implement a plan to protect the Boreal Forest.
Todd Paglia from Forest Ethics says Resolute has basically walked away from the table.
He says when they look at the agreement, Resolute is the “bad apple” and that the rest of it is in very good shape.
In addition, Janet Sumner from C-PAWS says Resolute has undermined their efforts.
She says they have run out of options and senior management are not prepared to live up to their commitments to the caribou population or to the agreement.
In response, Resolute says it was prepared to set aside an additional 204 thousand of forest land in northwestern Ontario for protection.
Tim Graham from the Ivey Foundation adds that they put five million dollars into the effort to protect the Boreal forest in the region.
He says they are disappointed that no progress has been made but they will continue to support the implementation of the agreement.
The environmental groups say instead of protecting more Boreal forest in northwestern Ontario, Resolute Forest Products has been expanding its use of local woodlands.
