Eric Staal Proud Of Staal Open Progress

The Staal Foundation Open came to a close today.

Eric Staal tells us he’s proud to see how far it’s come.

“The biggest thing is making an impact at the end on Sunday, being able to present the local charities with some money.”

Money raised through the week long event goes to the Smilezone Foundation, Camp Quality and the Regional Health Sciences Centre Foundation.

He adds the tournament has really taken off over the last five years.

Outside the bustle at the Whitewater Golf Club, Staal is also coming up to the end of his contract with the Minnesota Wild.

He hopes he’ll be able to stay with Minnesota, calling it “A great hockey market, it’s a great place to play,”

“I’ve really enjoyed becoming more involved with that organization and I’d like to do more,”

“Obviously, two years being out in the first round has been disappointing,” Staal admits, “But I’m hoping that there’s some years ahead for me there.” (File Photo)
