A private member’s bill to cap public sector salaries has failed to pass at Queen’s Park.
It was put forward by NDP MPP Gilles Bisson.
Bisson says the government hasn’t done enough to control the wages of public servants.
He says the Liberals committed to a cap back in 2012, however executive salaries of the provincial Community Care Access Centres went up by 27% over four years.
Bisson adds the new CEO of Hydro One will be getting paid $4-million.
Bisson’s bill called for the maximum civil servant salary to be more than twice of the Premier’s.
He says most executives of the Pan-Am Games are set to receive bonuses that will be twice their normal salary.
The Liberals say it’s “rich” that the NDP are putting the legislation forward since they wouldn’t support the government’s own bill regulating public sector salaries.
