Good news for local food producers as Lakehead University is moving into a new area of researching the food you eat.
It comes with the hiring of Charles Levko who will lead research into regional food systems.
Levko says he wants to look at ways to keep local producers thriving and help them expand.
He says his goal is to work with farmers, anglers, farmers markets and businesses to help them provide more homegrown products.
Levko says his study will also look at the challenges within the food system like poverty, hunger and sustainability.
He did similar research in southern Ontario.
His research is funded for a five year term.
