A Minnesota man has been hit with a hefty fine for starting a small forest fire on Lake of the Woods.
Timothy Brown of St. Paul has pleaded guilty to starting a fire without a permit and ordered to pay over $3,500 towards the cost of putting out the wild fire.
Back in August, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says Brown was burning some old cedar shingles and paper in a wooded area beside his camp on an island in Whitefish Bay.
He left the fire unattended and it quickly spread.
The fire grew to 0.1 hectares and fire fighters from Sioux Narrows and the MNR were called in to extinguish it.
