F.N. Language #2

The Federal Government has backed away from it’s 160

million dollar commitment to preserve aboriginal language.

Claudette Commanda is the Executive Director of the

First Nation Confederacy of Cultural Centres.

Commanda says the funding dates back to 2002, when 172.5

million dollars was announced for language programming.

To date only 12.5 million has been spent, Commanda says

first nation communities across the country are encouraged

to lobby the government for the return and an increase in

funding.
