The Municipality of Sioux Lookout is closing Farlinger Park and Town Beach for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
Manager of Corporate Services Brian MacKinnon says the move is to ensure the safety of residents as the township continues road and park upgrades.
MacKinnon says work continues on the Wellington Street North Corridor Infrastructure project and they have started planning the waterfront development project.
He stresses the area is a key gathering point for many community events and festivals, which is part of the reason Council approved the $2.9-million project to enhance the space.
MacKinnon is thanking the public for their patience and is confident the outcome will be well worth the wait.
MacKinnon stresses they are working with user-groups to ensure alternate venues are found for various community events throughout the Summer.
The July 1st Fireworks will remain at Farlinger Park and Town Beach.
