No By-Election In Dryden

As expected, there won’t be a by-election in Dryden to replace out-going Councillor Darryl Skinner.

The move was flatly rejected Monday night and Clerk Debra Kincaid says they will turn to an appointment process.

Kincaid says there are several options and Council will debate the best course of action at a meeting in July.

She notes they have until September to have a process in place.

Roger Valley says the City has turned to the previous municipal election results to fill two previous vacancies and he says they should stick to that tradition.

If that’s the case, Bryan Crawford would be asked to fill the void.

Mayor Greg Wilson is suggesting Council to come forward with names of suitable candidates as part of the selection process.

The City has once before decided to pull a name out of a hat to fill a vacant Council seat.

Skinner will leave his post in mid-July as he is pursuing other opportunities.

Here is a list of options facing Council:

1. Appoint the next highest vote-getter from the 2014 election.
2. Appoint a candidate from another office from the previous election.
3. Appoint any eligible/qualified member of the public.
4. Solicit interest from previous members of Council.
5. Any other appointment method at Council’s discretion.
