Federal Funding For Environmental Assessment

Attawapiskat First Nation is on the receiving end of $45,000 to participate in the environmental assessment of the proposed Victor Diamond Mine extension project.
The federal government is handing out a total of $86,560.
Four northern First Nations are benefiting as well as MiningWatch Canada and the Wildlands League.
De Beers Canada is hoping to develop a second it at the existing Victor Diamond Mine, about 100-kilometres west of Attawapiskat.
The pit will have an ore production capacity of 9,000 tonnes per day with a mine life of roughly 7-years.
Funding Breakdown: Attawapiskat First Nation $45,000; Moose Cree First Nation $10,500; Taykwa Tagamou Nation $10,460, Fort Albany First Nation $10,500; MiningWatch Canada $5,660; Wildlands League $4,440.
