The federal government is keeping the border crossing as open as possible to benefit tourism in the region.
Kenora MP Greg Rickford says they will offer the Tourism Facilitation Action Plan to U.S. tourists for another year.
Rickford adds the program allows people into the country even with a minor conviction.
Visitors are allowed one-time entry if they served no jail time and shown no evidence of repeat behaviour.
Rickford says the Feds continue to work on a permanent solution.
Rickford notes TFAP was very successful in the first year of operation and that tourist camps were in favour of extending the program.
