Federal Government Overhauling Firearm Legislation

The federal government looking at new rules to strengthen Canada’s gun laws.

It includes enhancing background checks and licensing and requiring stores who sell guns to have better record keeping.

Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale says its deals with fundamental things that have been long discussed.

“Views among Canadians can be very deeply divided. But we have taken a practical, common sense, respectful approach in putting this package together.”

Goodale notes offences involving firearms in Canada have increased 30 per cent since 2013.
