Northern municipalities are receiving financial help to upgrade aging infrastructure.
The Liberals have announced the federal share for infrastructure projects will increase from 50% to 60%.
For communities under 100,000 in population, municipalities will now be responsible for 17% of the costs, down from 33%.
For those with a population of less than 5,000, the municipal share will be dropped to only 7%.
The government says northern communities will now be in a better financial position to apply for funding for facility upgrades, food security, road upgrades, renewable energy projects and enhanced broadband connectivity
