The Federal Government is stopping short of promising new funding for anti-violence strategies in Ontario.
The Province committed $12.5-million dollars, including $5-million for Toronto yesterday.
Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has his sights on the Feds now and has arranged a meeting with Prime Minister Harper today.
Speaking in Sioux Lookout, Justice Minister Rob Nicholson noted they have already taken great strides to reduce gun and gang violence.
Nicholson says the Federal Government has already sent a message that if you commit gun crimes in this country, there will be serious consquences.
Nicholson says they have increased the mandatory penalties for people who commit serious gun crimes.
He adds they have made changes to the laws with stiffer penalties for such things as drive-by shootings.
Nicholson isn’t saying whether additional funds are available.
