The federal government is outlining a multi-pronged approach to deal with the loss of Greyhound Bus service in northern Ontario and western Canada.
Transport Minister Marc Garneau says where private companies haven’t come in to fill the void, they will work with the provinces to find transportation solutions.
Garneau says if provinces come forward and identify gaps, the feds would be willing to cost share to provide some funding to ensure that those routes would be covered.
He says they will also be working with aboriginal entrepreneurs to ensure that remote First Nations communities have access to transit services.
The government says the commitment will include new funding to support start-up transportation businesses.
Garneau says this is part of the development of a long term national mobility strategy.
