Federal Minister Talks Gun Control

National Minister for Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction Bill Blair wants to hear from law abiding gun owners as the government looks at possible strategies to reduce gun violence.

Blair met with area gun owners in Kenora on Friday as part of a fact-finding mission.

Blair says he wanted input on what kind of legislation the government should be looking at, while respecting the rights of safe gun users.

He stresses the goal of any future legislation will be to crack down on the number of hand guns getting into the hands of criminals, and reducing gun violence in Canada’s major urban areas.

Blair also had a chance to meet with representatives from nine municipalities in the Kenora District, including Dryden and Sioux Lookout, to discuss issues important to them, including the cost of dealing with marijuana legalization.
