FedNor Minister Briefed on Forest Fire Crisis

FedNor Minister Tony Clement says the forest fire situation is a very serious one and he is asking the Province to take the initiative and ask for help.
Clement and Kenora MP Greg Rickford met with firefighters and evacuees in Dryden this morning (Wednesday) and they were also briefed on the crisis in the Far North.
Clement says the Federal Government has been part of the solution by freeing up Canadian Forces Hercules and having the Department of Aboriginal Affairs assist in evacuations.
In terms of emergency assistance relief, its up to the Province to ask for Federal support, and Clement says he’s hoping they do it “sooner rather than later”.
