MNR Updates Press on Evacuations

The Ministry of Natural Resources says over 3,300 people will be evacuated from remote Northwestern Ontario communities by the end of the day. (Wednesday)
The MNR held a press conference in Toronto this morning to update the fire situation.
The latest evacuees come from Sandy Lake, Kingfisher Lake and Wunnimun Lake First Nations.
They are being flown to Moosenee, Arthur and Ottawa today.
Al Tithecott heads up Forest Fire Management for the Province and says a number of communities have been completely evacuated.
Tithecott says there priority has been Keewaywin First Nation where a large fire is burning about 3-kilometres away from property.
Minister Linda Jeffrey says the fires have burned a total area of 300,000 hectares, about five times the normal amount.
Ontario is receiving assistance now from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, the Yukon and Quebec.
More than 115 forest fires are raging across Northwestern Ontario.
Meantime, 20-Alberta firefighters are heading to Northwestern Ontario today. (Wednesday)
They’ll co-ordinate their efforts with waterbombers the Province sent to Ontario earlier this week.
Newfoundland and Labrador is also sending two waterbombers to help in the effort.
