Federal Health Minister Jane Philpott wants to see an improvement in the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme Disease.
The government is now spending $4-million to help achieve that.
Philpott says the number of cases is rising year over year.
Philpott says the most recent data they have is from 2015 when there were roughly 914 cases in Canada.
An estimate from the Public Health Agency warns there could be 10,000 new cases by 2020.
She notes more work is needed to educate health care professionals and members of the public.
Dr. Theresa Tam of the federal Public Health Agency says climate change is to blame in large part, because the tick population increases with the warmer weather.
