Fewer People Living in Northwestern Ontario

New census data shows the population of the Kenora District fell 10% over the last five years.
Statistics Canada released the first batch of numbers from the 2011 census this morning. (Wednesday).
The decrease is about 5% in the Rainy-River District.
Vincent Dale is an analyst with Stats Can and says the growth rate was below both the national and provincial average.
The growth rate was 5.8% in Ontario and 5.9% in Canada.
Dryden’s population dropped by 7%, while Ignace saw the largest decline at 16%.
The only two communities to buck the trend were Kenora and Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls.
Population growth dropped 2.2% in Eagle Lake First Nation but spiked 25.2% in Wabigoon Lake First Nation.
