Find A Sick, Injured Or Orphaned Animal?

Think twice before you help an injured, sick or orphaned wild animal.
That’s the message from the Ministry of Natural Resources, adding that removing an animal can actually do more harm than good.
Officials say animals need specialized care to get better, and that you can’t keep an animal in captivity without approval from the MNR. However, you can hold a wild animal for 24-hours and then it must be taken to a wildlife rehabilitation or a veterinarian.
Some animals leave their babies alone temporarily, so it’s important to not jump to conclusions if you see an animal has been abandoned.
In order to determine if the animal is REALLY abandoned, check on it every so often to see if it’s still around. It’s also important to keep your distance, and keep pets away.
For more information, visit or call your local MNR office
