With Summer finally here, the forest fire hazard is on the rise across northwestern Ontario.
The hazard is moderate to high in the southern sectors of the region and high to extreme in the north.
There are three active fires, the latest a small 0.1-hectare blaze being held near Pickerel Lake in the Kenora district.
The largest fire is burning about 40-kilometres from the Fort Hope First Nation.
It’s holding at 70 hectares in size.
