Fire Hazard High; Northwest Can Expect Smoke

The fire hazard remains at high across northwestern Ontario.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says they are dealing with multiple new starts on a daily basis.

A number of the fires are in the Red Lake district and the far north and good progress is being made on all new starts.

Several fires are being allowed to burn and are being monitored.

Lightning is the cause of most new starts.

Meantime, large fires in the Northwest Territories, northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba has resulted in smoke drifting into the far north of the region.
