Fire Hazard Now High/Extreme

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry confirms one building was destroyed in a wild fire near the Washagamis Bay First Nation over the weekend.

The blaze broke out Saturday afternoon and was quickly knocked down by water bombers.

The fire grew to almost 10 hectares in size, and is about half that size Monday.

The fire is still listed as active, but it is now under control with ground crews taking action on it.

Overall there were 19 new forest fires reported in the region over the weekend.

Another one of note is a 5 hectare blaze located near the Pikangikum First Nation.

It’s still not under control.

The forest fire hazard is high to extreme across the northwest.
