Fire Update in B.C. and Sunset Country

Northwestern Ontario is sending 4 Water Bombers to help fire crews in British Columbia.

Ministry of Natural Resources Information Officer Bob Thomas says more than 120 fires are now burning in that Province.

Thomas says their Bombers will be centred around Prince George and by Thursday 120 Fire Personnel will also be sent West.

He adds the MNR can spare the Resources as a record low 145 fires have been recorded this season in Ontario.

Thomas says the lack of action here has allowed them to carry out training as well as help out other groups that provided staffing support in the past.

With the arrival of Summer yesterday, Officials put the number of Spring fires in Sunset Country at 82.

Last year at this time, the Region had recorded 125 fires.

The previous low was set in 2000 with 95.
