This year’s hunting season has already taken the lives of five people in the country, including two in Ontario.
The incidents involve firearms that were either accidently discharged or because the hunter was not fully aware of the target.
Arnold Beebe is an instructor with the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, and says hunters must always keep their finger off the trigger when not aiming at a target.
Some other safety tips include wearing blaze orange, being sure of your target and keep your firearm unloaded and locked when travelling to and from a hunting area.
Beebe says all hunting fatalities can be easily prevented by taking the proper precautions.
