Fort Frances Town Council has unveiled its latest move following a recent controversial decision not to replace a retired firefighter.
The town intends to hire one interim full-time firefighter and will ultimately reduce the force from what had been 10 members to 8.
Meantime, volunteer firefighter Paul Danku and his brigade feel the new hiring is only a temporary fix.

Mayor Dan Onichuk compared Fort Frances, which had 10 full-time firefighters and roughly 20 volunteers, with other communities in the region.
The mayor noted Dryden has three full-timers and volunteers while Kenora with twice the population and area has 14 full-timers as well as volunteers.
