Firefly Workers Vote In Favour Of Strike Action

Workers at Firefly Child Treatment centres in northwestern Ontario have voted 76% in favour of strike action to back contract demands.
One-third of the 150 workers, represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union, have been without a wage increase for 12 years.
Union Spokesperson Amy Stamp says no strike date has been set.
Stamp says issues include staff retention, respect and wages.
The union says their members are paid less than comparable workers at other agencies and Firefly has been losing qualified professionals as a result.
Stamp says their clients and their families are suffering the consequences.
A labour board conciliator is scheduled to join the talks next Monday.
Firefly has offices in eight communities, including Dryden, Red Lake, Ear Falls, Ignace and Sioux Lookout.
