An Ontario man who stood by while his wife committed suicide in a hotel room has been sentenced to one year of probation.
48-year-old Peter Fonteece of Waterloo pleaded guilty in February to criminal negligence causing death.
His wife Yanisa took upwards of 40 sleeping pills and died in a Thunder Bay hotel room.
Her husband stood by silently, at her request.
Fonteece had told court at the sentencing hearing he and his wife didn’t think they were doing anything illegal.
