The Bruce Montague criminal trial continues to move along slowly in
Kenora Court.
Wednesday morning, another investigator from the Northern Forensics
Lab in Sault Ste. Marie was put on the witness stand.
J.P. Menard testified that he tested a number of the weapons seized
from Montague’s Dryden-area home in September 2004.
He says several of the firearms had been altered and in one case, a
hole had been drilled through the serial number of a rifle.
In another instance, a silencer had been manufactured for a 22-caliber
pistol.
Defense Lawyer Doug Christie discussed sound and flash suppressors with the crown witness and suggested someone may use the devices to prevent hearing loss.
Montague’s lawyer also made note that gunsmith’s could need to replace
pieces of older guns.
Menard admitted that gunsmiths do need to take apart guns to see
their inner workings and to find ways to make them work.
The criminal trial continues in kenora court.
