Forest Companies Seeking More Money For Forest Access Roads

The provincial government is being urged to increase funding for forest access roads in northern Ontario again this year.

Eacom operates a lumber mill in Ear Falls and spokesperson for the company Christine Leduc says they’d like to see $75-million earmarked for that program in the upcoming provincial budget.

Leduc says they saw $60-million in the 2015/2016 budget and calls the request for more money “reasonable”.

She notes the Liberals provided $74-million last year to maintain and upkeep forest access roads.

Leduc says the price of building roads has increased with inflation, but understands the government is “sensitive” to funds right now.
