The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry expects fire activity to pick up over the August long weekend.

Information Officer Debbie MacLean says rain has provided some relief but it was only temporary and recent storms have started more lighting caused fires.
There are more than 50 active fires across northwestern Ontario.
MacLean says most of the fires are in the Red Lake and Nipigon Districts.
There are no fires currently burning in the Dryden area.
